Technology Sucks

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

Why is it that the computer program that promised to make the work I do go faster, easier and with less mistakes seem to always crash or have some sort of problem that takes hours out of my day to fix?

I have a sneaking suspicion it isn’t helping me any…

Leave a Message After the Beep!

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I love blog-fads (blads?), I really do. Every week or so a whole slew of folks have nifty new toys to pass around and I gladly hold my hand out to join in!

The latest and greatest would be the Snapvine voice comment do-hickey! I got mine a number of days ago but have yet to post it because well…I’ve had other things to post about. Not to mention I wanted to make a nifty custom skin for it!

(mostly because the default skins they have are stoopid)

So, if ya wanna leave me a message after the beep just call:

1-(641)-985-7800

My Code Thingy: *2471402

The number is an Iowa one so you may get charged long distance (unless your cell phone rocks like mine) *chuckle*

P.S. I know, I know there’s an i-frame on this page *gasp* OH THE HORROR! G’head and pull my geek card if you must. But Snapvine’s code sucks ass and is unable to be resized so this was the only way I could display all my hours of hard work without having it show up all scrunched up and dumb lookin’. If anyone has figured a way around that would you pu-lease fuckin’ email me!!!1[one]!

Take a Bite out of Cyber Crime

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

Yo, parent-types, this one’s for you! I found this while surfing the other day and figured I’d pass it along to all ya’s with kiddos who are on the net. McGruff the Crime Dog is online and kicking some cyber-ass with his new website. It has little downloadable checklists that you can use to make sure you’ve got all the necessary tools in place to protect your computer. The site also has checklists for business computer users, mobile users and regular joe shmoe users with no kids.

McGruff the CyberCrime Dog

Here’s the front page blurb about the site:

McGruff the Crime DogĀ® is fighting one of the largest problems facing homes, schools and businesses across America: cyber crime. Led by the beloved McGruff character, the National Crime Prevention Council, the CMO Council and FAME have joined forces to bring together one of the largest and most influential coalitions of private and public companies whose primary goal is to teach millions of consumers how to identify, report and protect themselves against cyber crime.

I also did a Thursday Thirteen awhile back that has links to free computer protection software (good stuff). If you wanna check that out click here :)

Keep your ‘puter safe y’all!

P.S. Don’t forget about Dazed, she’s chillaxin’ up there in Room #813 waitin’ for you to drop by!

Ooogga Booga!

Friday, October 13th, 2006

Ok so I tried to scare ya…guess it didn’t work eh? Le sigh. Happy Friday the 13th everyone…whoppie friggen doo. I’d tell you that all the wack jobs are running around my neighborhood tonight but it’s like that every night so no change here *chuckle*

In my net travels today I found some useful goodies for ya to play with this weekend! Here they are in no particular order:

FEED Validator - This is a validator for syndicated feeds. It works with RSS 0.90, 0.91, 0.92, 0.93, 0.94, 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0. It also validates Atom feeds.

To use it, simply enter the address of your feed and click Validate. If the validator finds any problems in your feed, it will give you messages for each type of problem and highlight where the problem first occurs in your feed. If you’re unsure what a message means, click the “help” link next to the message for a fuller explanation.

Web2.0 Logo Creator - A parody of Web 2.0 Logos, make your own spiffy W20 logo. Here’s mine:

PDF Online - Convert to files to PDF for Free. Including the following formats MS Word, MS Publisher, MS Word, MS Excel, HTML, MS PowerPoint, Text and more.

Oh oh oh! One more thing I’ve been meaning to ask y’all:

How do you read An Indian Summer?
Physical Visit or RSS Feed?

I’m running out of town tomorrow so I hope y’all have a great weekend! :)

How to Podcast the Simple Way

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

Wanna podcast? Wanna put it on your blog? Don’t know where the fuck to start? I gotcha covered :) The other day in my ‘net travels I found a new website that is making podcasting super simple and it’s 100% free. *nods* I like free, free is good. I’m sure you like free as well. I feel an introduction is in order. Readers meet Odeo, Odeo meet my readers!

So, I tried it out and found that it works extremely well. Here’s the overview of the whole deal:

1. Sign up for the free account.

2. Go right to the studio to “Record New Audio”.

3. Record your podcast.

4. Save it.

5. Odeo gives you a snippet of code that you just copy and paste into your post.

6. Publish your post annnnnnd yer done!

I did a test recording using their studio software to see how the whole thing worked and this was the result for your listening pleasure:

powered by ODEO

Here’s a screenshot of the actual recording area of the site where you make your podcast:

Odeo Stuido

They also provide a few different styles of players so you don’t just have to use the default player. Here’s a screenshot of the current styles you can pick from:

Odeo Players

I think this is pretty cool, it’s like Blogger for podcasting *chuckle* And incidentally one of the guys who helped create this service (Evan Williams) was the same guy who created Blogger :) Little history trivia factoid there for ya to impress your bloggin’ buddies with.

Anywhoot, if you’re wanting to do up a podcast for your blog go get signed up and make sure you come back here and tell me that you have one posted so I can go listen to ya!

Gimme Some Good Words

Friday, September 8th, 2006

A couple days ago I installed a word verification thingy on here because I was sick of moderating 300+ comments a day that wanted to give us all low prices on cialis, Asian p0rn and home mortgages. I know, I know I’m totally holding out on you.

So I installed Peter’s Custom Word Verification Plugin for WordPress. Fully customizable and easy to install n’ use.

I already have some words in there (as you can tell) but I wanna add more…as they say variety is the spice of life.

So what words would y’all like to verify your posts with?

Here I thought that I was all done with those damn Meme’s.
Tough titty for me eh?
Here ya go Jono:
1. Stick- In the Mud
2. Bottle- Caps
3. Mint- Toothpaste
4. Camera- Phone
5. Trolley- Tracks
