Flowers are the Laughter of the Earth

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

A question that Meg Ryan absentmindedly asked in the classic internet romance movie You’ve Got Mail reveals my favorite flower of all time — the daisy.

“Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?”

I found that I had to agree with her. When I think of it I’ve never been much of a rose girl (they’re so serious) and all the other flowers are nice but just really don’t do it for me. There’s something about the daisy makes me want to grin. They’ve got an almost wobbly nature to them when you take them out of the jar and they look so darn happy. I’ve found I can relate to the whole wobbly-happy thing…which is probably why I like them so much :)

I found out yesterday my favorite flower is teaming up with my favorite online flowers delivery service and is really going all out by joining in the fight against breast cancer!

ProFlowers will donate 10% of the purchase price of our Pink Ribbon Gerbera Daisies bouquet to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Each bouquet is delivered with helpful information from the Komen Foundation about breast health.

Going to the Dogs (and Cats)

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

Hey y’all :) I’m up in Payson working on my mom’s house and helping her get her stuff ready to move. Thus far I’ve caulked a tub, hung a toilet paper roller, cleaned like a mo’ fo’, and sorted out tons closets and cabinets. I’m like Bob Villa except much hotter and not nearly as hairy! Now if I could just find someone to get all these knots outta my neck I’d be in great shape!

But let’s move on to more important things eh?

One of my kind hearted bloggin’ buddy ANO is doing some serious cash raising for some less than fortunate furry friends! This year she is participating in the Maryland SPCA March for the Animals. This march is really important as it helps fund the many great services the SPCA provides for lost or unwanted pets.

Her goal is $1,000 (that’s a shit-ton of puppy chow folks) and thus far she’s managed to bring in $770 (which is awesome)! If you have a couple of spare buck-a-roos hanging around please please sponsor ANO for the March and let’s push her as close to her goal as possible — every little bit helps. She would really appreciate it and all the critters she’s trying to help would be wicked grateful as well :)

To visit the online donation page to make your pledge just move your paw…er…mouse over this link right here!

Ok I’m going back to work…happy hump day y’all :)

P.S. I almost forgot, thank you so much to everyone for your sweet sweet anniversary wishes!

Junk in the Trunk

Monday, March 5th, 2007

Our mail box is up the street from our house so usually we stop by it when driving back into our neighborhood from wherever our day’s adventures have taken us. I’ll have The Hotness pop the trunk of the car and I’ll do a fast sort of what is important mail and what is just junk.

The important stuff (bills, personal letters, business mail) comes inside the car and then on into the house for processing. The junk (credit card offers, refinance offers, life insurance offers) lives in the trunk of the car for about a week until I gather it all up and do the “weekly sort and shred”.

Each week I can say that out of a whole pile of “trunk mail” I only end up finding use of maybe one piece. The rest just gets trashed because let’s face it I don’t need another credit card and I don’t have the time nor the resources to re-fi a house I just bought less than a year ago. All the junk was a waste of time and a huge waste of paper. So I did what every other red-blooded internet access having American would do when they have a problem…I consulted with Google about it.

Turns out there’s a website where you can actually opt-out of all that junk mail shit either for 5 years or forever (you get to pick your poison) and I just wanted to pass the info along to y’all. Click here to go visit and get yerself opted-out if you’re sick of dealing with tons of crap. I got The Hotness and I signed up today and am looking forward to having a lot less junk in my trunk from now on :)
