I’m a mover, a do-er, nervous energy is my constant companion. If I’m not doing something I’m thinking about the next thing I need to do. Going to sleep at night can be a battle between my exhausted body and my ever running mind. I’ve got things to do, people to see, places to go. If I’m not busy then I feel guilty – this is inherited from my parent’s crazy work ethic (thanks mom n’ dad!).

Today in my net travels I stumbled across this little site called Do Nothing for 2 Minutes. It was a challenge to sit and watch the screen for 2 minutes without doing anything (I failed about 4 times before making it through). Give it a shot and let me know how ya do

P.S. The parent site is calm.com which is also pretty neat and worth a look-sie.

Positive thinking has always been a stumbling block for me. I know that our thoughts have a major impact on our response to life and sometimes the outcome of situations. Still the “Negative Nelly” in me tends to turn my mental space into a minefield of nay-saying and worst case scenarios.

I’ve written before about the things I’ve tried to help me help myself in this regard. In some cases I’ve gotten better but I know that there’s a long way to go. One of the things that I’ve found that has really made a difference is my daily email from The Universe. Each weekday morning I wake up to a note from The Universe sitting in my inbox, they are non-denominational and encourage positive thinking, remind me of the good in life and just generally make me smile. My weekday ritual is to wake up and before doing anything else I read my email from The Universe and try to commit to memory what lesson it’s trying to convey so I can reflect on it during the day. If you’d like to sign up (it’s free) simply click here. It’s a nice moment of the day and hopefully it does as much good for you as it has for me

I’ve been smoking an “e-cigarette” for almost two months now and have only had one “real” cigarette in that time – yay me! (If you have no idea what that is click here to see it on Wikipedia then come back.) I did some reading prior to buying them and although they aren’t FDA regulated at this time I don’t see how it could be any worse than smoking and it does appear that it’s a helluva lot better than actually smoking a full blown tobacco cigarette…I’m not a scientist so don’t crucify me if I’m way off base here. I’m going off of my own experience with the stuff.

The kit that I originally purchased from a “chain store” supplier came with disposable vapor cartridges but I’ve since found a local smoke shop that sells a refillable set up complete with custom nicotine levels and custom flavoring options. Where before I was spending $50-$70 a week on cigs I’m now only spending about $5 a week on my “e juice”.

It’s been wonderful so far and I haven’t had a single craving for a real cig this whole time. The one time I did smoke was just to see if I missed it and I didn’t. All the smelly-ness and coughing and hacking from smoking is gone. My hair/breath/clothes/truck no longer stinks and I’m not going outside all the time to smoke. My eyes don’t hurt and I’m feeling overall tons better! I may try and use this method to quit eventually by stepping down the levels of nicotine I use but for now I’m just happy with the positive change this has brought me.

(By the way – this post is not a paid advertisement or review but if you want to check out the locally owned smoke shop I’ve fallen in love with that I now get all of my product from you can visit them here: Freedom Smoke USA. They will ship worldwide )

As a huge Sex in the City fan I’ve always wanted to visit NYC. The shots of the city streets leave me in awe each time I turn on the tube. Over 8 million people all crammed into a 305 square mile city is something I can’t fathom here in my sprawled out desert home town. In the show Carrie and her girls are in so many great parts of the city and the one thing they all seem to do in every episode is share a meal and some gossip at some fab restaurant.

I’ve been researching this dream trip of mine for quite a few years now, everytime I find a new website of something I want to see I have a special folder in my bookmarks call ‘The Sex and the City Trip’ that holds all the links. Last night while messing around online I found something that totally fits right into my trip itinerary which I didn’t even know existed. Walking Food Tours NYC, you actually pay someone to take you out into the city and they show you the best food spots the Big Apple has to offer!

I fell in love with this idea because well, I <strike>like</strike> love to eat and they have a Greenwich Village Food Tour that includes a stop for cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery made famous from Sex and the City! Can you say AWESOME!?!

Vacationing vicariously though a t.v. show may be a little nerdy but when the day finally comes that I’ll step off the plane and step into Manhattan I know it’s gonna be one helluva trip! I just did a little evaluation of all of the links I have saved and if I tried to do everything that has caught my eye my vacation there would have to be for 3 months *chuckle* A girl can dream though can’t she?

Whilst I was away in my minimal online travels I discovered this great site called TUT’s Adventurers Club. You can sign up for their daily Notes from the Universe which are positive reinforcement emails that are served up fresh and delivered hot to your inbox Monday through Friday each week.

Now I’m not getting all touchy-feely and new age-y but it is nice to have an email sitting there each morning before work that gives me a little extra boost…give it a shot you may find you like it as much as me…and if not you can always unsubscribe

Here’s an example of the message I got on New Year’s Day:

I want you to know, Sarah, that I’ve ordered up another year for you.

Think I’ll call it 2010.

I’m going to put most of the same people of 2009 in it, since you all think so much alike. But there’ll also be a few new, very cool cats coming to play – give them some time to grow up though.

And I’m going to have things start off pretty much exactly where they left off in 2009, for continuity’s sake. Flips folks out too much when I don’t.

All in all, 365 more days in paradise… and only one request of you:

DREAM BIGGER.

Coolio?

Let’s do this,
The Universe

Neat eh? Check it out

These folks are trying to see how long it will take to get 1 million bloggers to list themselves on their site. I went ahead and put myself on the other day and I was the 2,252nd blogger to jump on the wagon. I’m hoping they reach their goal, it’s a neat idea…

Plus you can snag this nifty badge for your blog:

In their words:

It is said that there are over 70,000,000 blogs in existence. This is an experiment to see how long it will take to get 1,000,000 blogs to list themselves on our site. Will it work? We think so. The experiment is to see how long will it take. What do you think? take our poll. We started April 10th, 2008.

But tonight I logged into my word press and noticed to my surprise there was a new incoming link titled The Beary Best. So, I gave it a click and found I’d been awarded this little cutie-pie…

Too cute!!! And a Beary big furry thank you to the sweetheart over at Dreaming in the Dark for bestowing it on me

In other news, I turned a whopping 23 years old on August 8th, it came and passed without much hullabaloo. I just realized I’m going to have to update my age on the sidebar now *chuckle* This whole place really needs a new look and the cobwebs swept out of the corners…I’m so embarrassed at the condition of AIS. Reckon I’ll add that to my never ending to-do list…
