Watching a special on E! the other day I found out that it’s now the “hot” thing in Hollywood to “go green”. Major stars like Julia Roberts are jumping on the band-wagon and modifying their behavior and lives by driving eco-friendly cars and shopping with canvas bags instead of plastic. Now usually I’m against any sort of Hollywood fad because they are either:
1. Too expensive for my broke ass to afford.
2. Will cause me to regret and possibly burn pictures of myself ten years later.
3. Make me think that money really does make people go bat-shit crazy.
But this time around I can actually support what’s going on in the Hollywood hills. I’m sure something new will come along soon and most of the green-stars will move on to the next big thing but at least for now they’re doing something right.
So I’m curious as to where does that leave the rest of us?
We here at Casa de la Bug have started converting all the bulbs in the house to compact florescent by switching out a couple a week (it’s kinda expensive to do all the lights at once). And I must admit that the light bulb thing is kinda selfish on my part because from what I understand it’s cheaper to use them…and I’m all about doing stuff on the cheap *chuckle* We are also lucky enough to live in a city that provides free roll off carts for recycling so we participate in that as well.
Are any of you guys making small adjustments in your lives? (switching out light bulbs to compact florescent, ditching the plastic bags, etc.)
Or have you jumped in with both feet and took the full greenie plunge? (purchased an eco-friendly car, converted your house to solar energy)
Or do do think this is all a bunch of crap and you have better things to worry about?
