Back in the Day Buffet

It’s almost Friday folks! Keep on pushin’, that blessed weekend is almost here! Due to the Blogathon my lil’ home on the web here has been getting many new visitors (I reckon I should have like cleaned up and put out mints or something). I just wanted to say welcome to all of you and thanks for stoppin’ by, feel free to help yourself to whatever you find in the fridge and please don’t bother the potted plants ;)

Room #813 is occupied after a short break, this time it’s a blogger whose site I’ve been poking around for a little while now and I just love her layout and her writing! Go over and say howdy to Laci from Long, Slow, Beautiful Dance and tell her how pretty her blog is wouldja?

When I went to the par-tay over at Jade’s casa a couple weeks ago I got to meet her darling father. Somehow through the course of the conversation the topic turned to music–and not just any music– oldies. Of course The Hotness being older than dirt (I love you squishy) got in on the conversation and pretty soon the two guys were talkin’ about the good ol’ days. Some song or artist was mentioned and Jade’s daddy looked at me and said something to the effect of “I guess that was before your time so you wouldn’t know who we’re talking about.” *chuckle*

I guess I surprised him when I shared a little secret about my childhood. I grew up listening to records from back in the day, yup, my childhood musical experiences were done up in black shiny vinyl and spun around on my mom’s turn-table. The artists I should have been listening to from “my time” were along the lines of M.C. Hammer and Vanilla Ice. But instead I rocked out with Joe Cocker, Arlo Guthrie, Joplin, Morrison, and the Beatles. In fact Abbey Road was one of my favorite albums; I’d spend all day moving that needle back so I could hear the songs again.

So here’s a little buffet of oldies for ya to get you through Friday and start your weekend off with a little song in your heart! And don’t worry, if you wanna sing along I promise I won’t judge ya one lil’ bit because I’ll be singing right along with ya ;)

(These will be up for the next couple days but will then be deleted, I’m not Napster yaknow. Please make sure to “Save” these to your puter and play them from there, thanks!)

One” – Three Dog Night
Black Magic Woman” – Santana
Pretty Woman” – Roy Orbison
Money” – Pink Floyd
Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” – Otis Redding
Somebody to Love” – Jefferson Airplane
Long Cool Woman” – Hollies
Truckin‘” – Greatful Dead
Bad Moon Rising” – CCR
Wouldn’t it be Nice” – Beach Boys

Enjoy folks! :)

  1. Bug, thanks for having me this week!

Good luck with the Blogathon! :)

  2. What great songs! I did grow up on those songs and I’m not old. Love reading your blog sweetie! Are you exercising those fingers for July 29th?

  3. Here throught ‘Stumbling through Life with Grace’ to donate to your blogathon. I’ve never done a blog a thon, but raising money for the worthy cause you’ve chosen is a good thing! =o)

    Thanks so much!

  4. Woot! Great tunes! My parents raised me on this music and now my own children love it too! I say we’re not old, just have great taste in tunes! ;-)

I’m going to be pimpin’ out your blogathon today! I’ll be around to keep you company too, while you’re pluggin’ away at those posts!

  5. Haha, I’m the exact same way! My dad is OBSESSED with old music (he’s currently in a blues phase, but when I was growing up it was all 60′s and 70′s), and I definitely got my passion for music from him. He’ll be talking with a business associate or something and I’ll not only be able to keep up with the conversation, but I often contribute something about music that the other guy didn’t know.

You picked some of my favorite songs to post ;-) !

  6. hmmm…so that’s where all those scratches came from on my Abbey Road’s album!
Blog on, girl you do me proud!
    Love
    Mom
    ;-)

  7. HEy, good luck. Thanks for these music hotlinks. too.

  8. Oh, I’ve got hundreds of oldies music in MP3. Disco too.
