Kissin’ Frogs
This weekend was pretty fast and furious, Rich was in town, had a company/friend get together at Gus The Greeks, and Sunday Rich and I drove up to Payson so he could meet mi madre.
I had expressed reservations about telling mom about him and I as…well…he’s male and breathing which will be strike one for him in my mothers eyes. Older than me? Strike two. He’s got kids. Strike three. Mom, bless her heart took it a little better than I was expecting. However, now that I look back at it all she treated him just as she treated every guy before him that I brought “home”.
For once I would be ecstatic if she would just approve of someone and be nice to them instead of treating them like they need to be dissected, scrutinized and watched like a hawk. It’s not like I came up there and said “Hey I’m getting engaged/married/preggers!” *snort, choke, wheeze*
The cliche situation is the mother would be the one who welcomes the new guy into the family and is just happy that I’m happy. It’s usually the father who has a cow and is ready to pounce on the guy if he slips up once. Oddly enough my whole life it’s been totally reverse. My dad has always been cool with whatever guy I bring around, he shares the “look for the good in a person” gene that I have. He gives them a chance, doesn’t like to make people uncomfortable.
Mom has never done that. Ever. It’s always a huge production/emotional ride/long ass talks situation. So my mom loves me, I know this…but my take on it is: If I am smart enough to raise my bro, hold two jobs, run the house and property, and pay my own bills then why is it when the subject of guys comes up I’m all of a sudden a total idiot in her eyes? *shrug* Well, there’s a reason I live down here I guess…keep the madness at bay.
Anywhoot, enough angsty ranting….I caught this lil’ guy was chillin’ outside of the gas station in Phoenix and I thought I’d give ya’ll a break from the usual poisonous creepy-crawlies:

You know you want to kiss it….g’head ;o)
